Moxie Bread settles into new Longmont production facility

A provider of organic food to Boulder County residents for years, Moxie Bread Co. recently established a production facility in Longmont. The company used to split its bread and pastry production between its Louisville and Boulder locations, respectively. Those locations are still open, but now, Longmont is the sole place where both bread and pastries are baked and sent off to hungry customers.

Phillippa Clark: Sustaining an heirloom legacy

The Boulder County community was shocked when Andy Clark unexpectedly died in 2022, leaving behind Phillippa and their three young sons.

“It was a terrible time in our lives, but I wanted Andy’s work to go on,” Clark says. She stepped forward into the challenges as owner of the now 10-year-old Moxie Bread Co., intent on building her husband’s inspiration by supporting local sustainable farmers.

Where to Buy Colorado-Grown Grains and Flours (and How to Use Them)

“The whole reason why I’m here and doing this is because I believe in regenerative farming and sustainability and lowering our carbon footprint,” Pembridge adds. “You’re creating a genuine community by buying from local farmers and producers.”

Remembering Andy Clark, Founder of Moxie Bread Co.

"Father. Baker. Organizer. Musician. Entrepreneur. Friend. Andy Clark wore many hats over the course of his time in Boulder County, a place he was so proud to call home... More than any of his individual achievements, Andy's legacy is the people who loved him. He drew us together, reminding us that we are truly stronger, better and brighter when we all bring our individual talents to the table. His is a hearth fire that will never be snuffed out—one that we, his community, will stoke by continuing to gather in the way that Andy taught us."

Local businesses offer food to Marshall Fire victims

On Sunday, Boulder-based Farm Eats Direct (FED) food truck and Moxie Bread Company in Louisville worked together to offer food to those who are displaced. FED offered frittata, grilled cheese, soup and other warm meals to those in need. Moxie provided bread, which was prepped the day the fire broke out. The bakery also offered coffee, nuts, and lasagna, and planned to make pizzas to hand out.

This story will seem like a bit of an aside, but on December 30, 2021, the Marshall Fire tore through parts of Louisville and Superior Colorado, destroying nearly 1000 homes and businesses. We live in Lafayette Colorado (Louisville is our neighbor to the west) about 4 miles from where the fire finally stopped spreading when the unusual hurricane force winds which propagated the fire across our drought stricken suburbs finally subsided.

Moxie Bread Co. and Andy Clark, both in Louisville and covered in this article and video clip, are a cornerstone in the Grain Chain out here in Colorado. We need more Andy's, Moxie's, Donna's and FED's in times like these.
